Be Aware, Be Well – Migrant Mental Health Initiative

About

Be Aware, Be Well – Migrant Mental Health Initiative seeks to reduce mental health inequalities by strengthening mental health literacy, improving access to services, promoting wellbeing of migrants through community-based initiatives, and supporting the improvement of mental health services.

Activities

Support and Advocacy

Mental health capacity-building: We facilitate and provide access to evidence-based migrant mental health capacity-building programs covering mental wellbeing, recovery, suicide prevention, first-aid–type training, and supporter training. 

Pathways to Being Well resource pack: We developed the pack which includes a multilingual migrant mental health guide and a training framework for migrants and peer supporters.

Connect Cafés: We organise Connect Cafés for migrants and ethnic minorities to meet, chat, provide mutual support, and connect with broader services and their communities. 

Partnerships: We partner with local initiatives.


Mental Health Service Improvement Facilitation

Research and policy: We contribute to policy forums, research initiatives, and service and advocacy advisory groups. 

Talks and presentations: We deliver presentations and share expertise on migrant mental health to support responsiveness among mental health service providers.

Migrant and Ethnic Minority Mental Health Engagement: We develop a Migrant & Ethnic Minority Mental Health Engagement Structure that involves individual and group capacity-building activities, as well as creating and expanding opportunities for mental health engagement for minorities.
