Launch of Balbriggan Integration Forum

BIF launchThe Launch of Balbriggan Integration Forum (BIF) took place in Balbriggan Town Hall on Friday, 6th of December, 2013. The event was opened by Cathaoirleach of Balbriggan Cllr Peader O’Kelly and the Forum was officially launched by the Mayor of Fingal Cllr Kieran Dennison.

Tonya Myles, General Manager of Cairde introduced Cairde followed by Emilia Marchelewska who introduced the Balbriggan Integration Forum. Betsy Abu gave a residents perspective of the importance of the Balbriggan Integration Forum for integration and Margaret Campbell, Manager of Services for Social Inclusion, HSE Dublin North gave a service providers perspective on the importance of Balbriggan Integration Forum for social inclusion of the community in Balbriggan.

The winners of the Balbriggan Integration Forum logo competition were announced: Sarah Kendellen, Balbriggan Community College, Aimee Smith, Balbriggan Community College, Katie Caffrey,  Balrothery N.S., Georgia Giffin,  Balrothery N.S., Wisdom Egbuchulam, St. Georges N.S.,  Iman Khan,  Balbriggan E.T.N.S.,  Jennifer Bilas Rodriguez, Balbriggan E.T.N.S.

The judges had a very tough job in choosing a winner from the many entries. Our panel of Judges consisted of:    Margaret Campbell, HSE, Social Inclusion Manager,   Julie Clark, Fingal, County Council, Arts Officer,  Ben Numbi, local artist,    Sarah Duku, Cairde, Advocacy Officer,  Cllr Peader O’Kelly, Mayor of Balbriggan,  Clare Furler, graphic designer and  Gerry Williams, Failte Isteach.

Live international music from an Irish group Home Brew, the Roma Group Musicantia and Beat Box by the AOD and Melody Mac (from Foroige) performed. Also “Tastes from Around the World” – a selections of international cuisine donated by local businesses and brought by invited guests was served.

A very successful evening!

Balbriggan Integration Forum is a voluntary body that believes in developing positive intercultural relationships by respecting and sharing the richness, beauty and potential of all people and their respective cultures which will add significantly to the quality of people’s lives in the area.
