Flood / Storm Assistance

Tred crosshe Irish Red Cross is assisting those people whose homes have been affected by severe flooding and storms across the country.

To assist you in your role within the community, we would like to draw your attention to a number of resources the Irish Red Cross can offer as you encounter vulnerable members of your communities over the next number of days/weeks. While the Irish Red Cross is usually deployed by the HSE Ambulance Service under the Major Emergency Framework, we will endeavour to assist other agencies and we have some capacity to respond including:

1. The Irish Red Cross has an extensive network of volunteers who may be of assistance to you locally. This support could include, but is not limited to household or residential facility evacuations, transporting members of the public, visiting elderly or vulnerable members of the community, assisting with accessing isolated people due to electricity outages, public health messaging within communities impacted by floods, etc.

2. The Irish Red Cross has a 140-strong vehicle fleet of which can be used in times of crisis. Within this fleet, there are a number of road and off-road (4×4) ambulances, minibuses and a small number of support vehicles with generators.

3. For flooding relief for households, the Irish Red Cross is working closely with the Community Welfare Service within the Department of Social Protection to identify those most in need of assistance from the Ireland Floods Appeal. This appeal exists to aid people affected by flooding in the form of small cash grants up to €1000. People who wish to apply should talk to their local Community Welfare Officer in the first instance.
